In response to the many questions, concerns, and developments within the ever-changing landscape of religious liberties, the International Human Rights Group (IHRG) has developed a Church Rights Project designed to meet the needs of churches and other religious organizations. We offer a variety of legal and informational services that will benefit your church, religious organization, and the missionaries with whom you work. It is our goal to stand with you and protect your religious expression rights as you minister in your community; regardless of whether your community is an American neighborhood or a mission field anywhere in the world.
We can help you with any religious land use issues that you face. In today’s aggressive tax climate, many churches and religious organizations are facing hostile or ignorant city council members or county commissioners engaged in discriminating in land use and zoning issues. These officials wrongly believe that the idea of “separation of church and state” requires them to refuse privileges guaranteed such organizations by the Constitution of the United States. The IHRG is experienced in fighting for your right to use your land for religious purposes with the proper tax exemptions based on federal, state, and local tax codes.
We can help you incorporate your church or religious organization as a non-profit organization, including filing the proper documents for federal tax exemption status. While congregationally-based churches are automatically exempt from federal taxes and gifts to such churches are routinely exempt from federal taxation, many churches and all non-church religious organizations should file for their tax exempt status so that they may fully protect their rights and the rights of their donors. The Church Rights Project is specially designed to help you file the necessary applications and obtain your determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service. We do all the work and help you through the process from beginning to end.
We can help your church or religious organization with compliance issues. Whether you need help organizing your board meetings, determining what board resolutions need to be passed in keeping with your tax exempt status, or simply have questions regarding your rights in a specific situation; we can help. We are prepared to provide corporate and financial consulting, as well as legal advice, on any of the issues facing religious organizations and churches.
We can help your church with any legal issues involving sharing your faith in your community. Many community officials across America are restricting the activities they permit on streets, sidewalks, and in the parks. Often, the new regulations are burdensome and inhibit freedom of speech and the exercise of your religious beliefs. We have nearly two decades of experience in protecting the rights of Christians and religious organizations in the public arena. Whether you are hosting an outreach in a local park, handing literature on a sidewalk, or witnessing near businesses in your community, we are prepared to stand with you; whether your outreach is designed to reach hundreds or just one. We stand ready to fight for your rights before government authorities, including providing legal help in court if necessary. We are also prepared to help educate public officials regarding the rights of people of faith.
We can help the missionaries your church supports both domestically and abroad. This particular service can be easily broken down into a number of sub-categories. We can help you regarding questions of direct support structuring for missionaries. We can help you with establishing the businesses that some missionaries need in order to gain access into closed and semi-open communities. We can help missionaries obtain the proper visas for working abroad on long-term mission projects. We can provide assistance with foreign and domestic tax issues for missionaries serving at home and abroad.
Further, we provide the same assistance to internationally-based missionaries facing discrimination or persecution that we provide to churches and religious organizations domestically. Whether being threatened with arrest for handing out literature, preaching in public places, experiencing difficulties in renting facilities, fighting for tax exempt status, equal treatment under the law, or a variety of other problems, we can provide the help necessary to permit you to continue ministering without distraction.
We are available to provide personal training regarding Christian rights in the public square.
We are prepared to come to your church or organization and offer a seminar on the general nature of religious liberties or tailor the presentation to the specific issues you need clarified. We have attorneys and other staff members who are dedicated to protecting religious liberties; they stand ready to come and give a personal presentation on the rights of churches, religious organizations, and individuals in America and beyond.
